Recording Data Rate and Storage Requirements Calculation

Data Rate [MB/sec] = (Image Height x Width x Bytes per Pixel x Frames per second) / 1,000,000

Storage [MB] = Data Rate [MB/sec] x Record Time [sec]

Example 1: 640 x 480 pixels, RGB (24-bit), 60 fps, color camera, and 30 minutes recording time

Data Rate = 640 x 480 x 3 x 60 / 1,000,000 = 55.3 MB/sec (HDVR-60)

Storage = 55.3 x 1800 = 99.54 GB = 2 x 80 GB ATA Drives

Example 2: 1024 x 768 pixels, 10-bit, 45 fps, monochrome camera, 60 minutes recording time

Data Rate = 1024 x 768 x 2 x 45 / 1,000,000 = 70.1 MB/sec (HDVR-250)

Storage = 77.1 x 3600 = 227.6 GB = 4 x 73 GB SCSI Drives

HDVR-250

• High-end PC Workstation¹ with dual Intel Xeon processors, dual PCI buses, and 512 MB system RDRAM

• Dedicated SCSI disc controller and 1 to 4 high-speed SCSI disc drives

• Includes a camera², frame grabber³ and cable

• DVR software⁴ for recording and playback.

• Maximum sustained video recording rate of 250 MB/sec to hard disc and 500 MB/sec to system memory

• Fully integrated and tested system
